Frequently Asked Questions

A private blood test simply means arranging blood testing outside of a routine NHS appointment. There are different reasons people choose this option.
You may already have a blood test request form from your GP, consultant or another healthcare professional. In this case, I can provide professional blood collection and help with the sample collection process.
Alternatively, some people choose private blood testing because they want to be more proactive about understanding their health. Perhaps they want to check general wellbeing, explore specific areas of concern, or monitor important health markers.
If you know what you would like to test, I can help arrange the appropriate private testing options through my laboratory partners. Depending on your needs, this may include health screens such as:
Women's health and menopause testing
Wellness and general health screens
Thyroid function testing
Vitamin and nutritional markers
Cholesterol and metabolic health checks
Other blood tests available through our laboratory partners
Your chosen test package is prepared by the laboratory, and I provide the professional blood collection service. Once your sample has been processed, results are provided according to the laboratory's reporting process.
Private blood testing can be a convenient option for people who want to be more informed about their health. It does not replace medical advice, diagnosis or treatment from your GP or specialist, but it can provide useful information to support conversations about your health and wellbeing.

The NHS is an excellent and essential service, and for many people it is the right place to seek medical advice, investigations and treatment.
However, private blood testing provides an additional choice for people who want more flexibility and control over their healthcare journey.
Sometimes people choose private blood testing because:
It is quicker and more flexible.
If you already have a blood test request form from your GP or healthcare professional, you may prefer a more convenient appointment option rather than waiting for an available blood collection appointment.They want access to tests that are not routinely available through NHS pathways.
Some people choose private testing because they want to explore additional health markers that may not be included in standard NHS blood testing.They want to be proactive about their health.
Many people want to understand more about their health, monitor changes in their body and have information that can help them make informed decisions.
As we get older, many of us become more interested in preventative health and monitoring important areas such as cholesterol, thyroid function, vitamin levels, hormones, metabolic health and general wellbeing.
For example, many women going through perimenopause or menopause want to understand more about their changing hormones. Hormones such as testosterone can be an important part of women’s health during this stage of life. Testosterone testing for women is not routinely available through standard NHS blood testing pathways in many circumstances, which is why some women choose to access this type of testing privately.
Private blood testing does not replace your GP or specialist. Your results should always be considered alongside your symptoms, medical history and appropriate medical advice when needed. My role is to provide a professional, safe and convenient blood collection service, working alongside existing healthcare services.
At Hampshire Phlebotomy Services, my aim is to make blood testing simple, accessible and reassuring, giving people more choice in how they look after their health.

First of all, you are not alone. Many people feel anxious about blood tests. Some people feel nervous, some feel faint, some cry, and some have a genuine fear of needles that they cannot simply control.
Please do not feel embarrassed. I understand.
Throughout my healthcare career, I have looked after many different patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I have cared for patients receiving chemotherapy, elderly patients who needed extra patience and reassurance, people with epilepsy, patients in A&E with complex health needs, people recovering after cardiac surgery, and many others who needed a calm and compassionate approach.
These experiences have taught me that every person is different. A blood test is not just about taking blood—it is about making someone feel safe, respected and cared for.
When you come for your appointment, I will:
listen to your concerns and understand what makes you anxious;
explain what I am doing so you know what to expect;
take the time you need and never make you feel rushed;
adapt my approach to what helps you feel more comfortable.
My degree in Special Psychopedagogy has also given me a deeper understanding of communication, anxiety and individual needs. I know that some people need more explanation, some need a quieter approach, and some simply need reassurance that they are being listened to.
Your appointment is private and confidential. You will never be judged because you are scared, emotional or need extra support.
My aim is simple: to make your blood test as calm, respectful and comfortable as possible.
-
Not necessarily.
If your GP, consultant or healthcare professional has already requested blood tests, you can book an appointment with your existing request form. I can provide the professional blood collection service and help make the process more convenient.
If you do not have a request form but would like to arrange private blood testing, I can help you explore available options through my laboratory partners, including health screens, thyroid testing, women's health and menopause-related testing, wellness checks and other blood test options.
Private blood testing is a choice for people who want additional flexibility or information about their health, while medical advice and treatment remain with your GP or healthcare professional.

Yes. I understand that travelling to appointments can be difficult for some elderly or vulnerable people.
If your relative lives in a nursing home, residential care home or supported living setting, I can arrange a visit where appropriate to provide professional blood collection in a familiar environment.
I appreciate that many older people feel more comfortable and relaxed in surroundings they know, and having a blood test carried out where they live can reduce the stress of travelling and waiting in unfamiliar places.
Before arranging an appointment, I will discuss the requirements with you and the care setting to ensure everything is organised safely and appropriately. If your relative has a blood test request form from their GP or healthcare professional, I can carry out the blood collection according to the request provided.
My priority is always to provide a calm, respectful and dignified experience, especially for patients who may need extra patience, reassurance and support.

The total cost depends on what type of blood test you need and whether you already have a blood test request form.

If you would like to arrange private blood testing

The laboratory test or health screening package – including the test kit and laboratory processing;

Every phlebotomist brings their own experience and approach. What I believe makes Hampshire Phlebotomy Services different is the combination of my clinical experience, my understanding of people and the care I provide.
Throughout my healthcare career, I have worked with patients in many different settings, including NHS hospitals, GP surgeries and private healthcare. I have cared for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, from patients receiving chemotherapy and those recovering after cardiac surgery, to elderly patients, children having their first blood test and people who feel anxious or frightened about needles.
These experiences have taught me that a blood test is not only a clinical procedure—it is also a personal experience. The way someone is treated, spoken to and reassured can make a real difference.
I combine professional phlebotomy skills with a calm, friendly and empathetic approach. I take the time to understand each person's needs, whether that means supporting someone with needle anxiety, helping someone with difficult veins, communicating with a child, or simply providing reassurance to someone who feels nervous.
My background in Special Psychopedagogy has also given me a deeper understanding of communication, anxiety and individual needs, helping me adapt my approach to each patient.
Above all, I believe trust matters. When you invite a healthcare professional into your home or choose someone to provide your care, you deserve someone who is experienced, respectful, confidential and genuinely cares about your experience.
At Hampshire Phlebotomy Services, my aim is simple: to provide safe, professional blood collection with the kindness and attention every patient deserves.

Yes, absolutely. If your GP, consultant, or specialist has requested an ECG trace, we can perform a standalone 12-lead resting ECG in the comfort of your home. You do not need to book blood tests or extra clinical services. We will perform the ECG, provide you with an immediate printed copy of your trace, and supply a formal CardioScan report that you can hand straight back to your doctor.
-
While both tests use the same lightweight, continuous recording device attached to comfortable chest sensors, the key difference is the duration of monitoring.
Your doctor will typically request a 48-hour monitor if your palpitations, fluttering, or dizzy spells occur sporadically rather than every day.

Patients with doctor-prescribed treatment plans for Haemochromatosis or Polycythemia.
Therapeutic venesection takes 30–45 minutes. Having it done at home avoids clinical waiting rooms and allows you to rest comfortably immediately afterward. Safely regulates body iron levels, improves circulation, reduces organ strain, and boosts daily energy.
